The Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development (WAGCD) was established in April 2005. The Macro-Economic Policy Framework (2005-2006) and The Consolidated Action Matrix Plan for 2005 spelt out the following mandate for the Ministry of Women affairs, Gender and Community Development:
· Poverty Reduction
· Gender equality and equity
· Empowerment of women
These areas are also in line with the Millennium Development Goals 1 and 3. At the beginning of June 2005, the Ministry held a workshop during which the vision, mission, values and a 5-year strategic plan (2005-2010) were developed. |
